The Challenge OLR on-line respirometer provides continuous monitoring
of the oxygen uptake rate in your activated sludge process. Influent
wastewater is pumped into the respirometer's reaction vessel along
with mixed liquor from the aeration basin. Using volume ratios similar
to those used in your treatment plant operation produces a continuous
measure of oxygen uptake rate (OUR). This OUR can be used as a parameter
for regulating air flow, controlling solids retention time, or responding
to inflows that can potentially cause plant upsets. Additionally,
correlations of OUR with 5-day BOD tests provides a short term measure
of Biochemical Oxygen Demand.
